Tajikistan introduced a competency-based education (CBE) curriculum in 2015 with the aim to transition to a holistic, student-centered approach to education that fosters students’ development of improved cognitive skills and 21st-century content knowledge.
However, a 2021 report found that more resources and coordinated efforts are needed to ensure CBE is fully integrated into the education system. They are striving to accelerate efforts to implement CBE for the benefit of all children, more deeply embedding this approach across the system.
GPE will support the government to ensure more student-centered learning assessments and data management systems will enable policymakers to adjust curriculum implementation to the needs and performance of boys and girls beyond basic education.
Updated teaching and learning materials and competency-based teacher professional development will contribute to better education quality, while a range of improvements to school infrastructure will ensure more inclusive learning environments.
