Jorge U. Colin is the Gender Equality – Education Specialist within the Global Partnership for Education - GPE. Jorge is an education economist with more than 10 years of experience working with international and private organizations in Latin America, East Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.
Previous to this appointment, Jorge was part of the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI) with a focus on improving financing for girls’ education through gender-responsive budgeting and cost-effective program alternatives. He also worked in UNICEF’s Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa as an education economist, and later in New York as part of UNICEF’s team in charge of Secondary Education.
Jorge holds a PhD in Economics of Education from Columbia University. His research focuses on gender, development financing, budgeting, school-related violence and data visualization. He has been a visiting researcher in Science Po - Paris, The Central European University in Budapest and in the Mexican Embassy in Argentina.
