John Mugo is Executive Director at Zizi Afrique Foundation in Kenya. His research addresses key themes of foundational literacy and numeracy, whole-child development, parental and youth engagement and social-emotional learning assessment. He is Principal Investigator of the Assessment of Life Skills and Values in East Africa (ALiVE)—a program developing and using contextualized tools across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Previously, he headed the Uwezo learning assessments in East Africa, coordinating hundreds of civil society organizations and tens of thousands of assessment volunteers across the region. A particular interest and concern of John’s is reflected in his previous chairing of the Department of Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University as well as through his publications on inclusion and equity in learning.
